about

Kirin McElwain weaves cello, voice, experimental sound design, and deep listening practices into works that move freely between classical traditions, noise, and improvisation.

Viriditas (“greening” or "greenness") comes from Hildegard von Bingen's work, Scivias, where it is used to refer to divine nature. For Kirin, "viriditas" speaks to the possibilities for renewal that come with engaging in creative practice as a means of confronting ourselves and making sense of our experience, and to the divine nature of music itself.
